The Covid-19 pandemic has been one of the most deadly pandemics so far. It has impacted our lives in many ways with lockdowns and curfews. While the economy is opening up and people’s lives are inching towards normalcy, scientists from Wuhan warn that another virus (similar to coronavirus) can emerge in humans.
Scientists have said that the virus is related to the Middle East respiratory syndrome (MERS) and the structure is also similar to SARAS-CoV-2. Moreover, Scientists have stated that NeoCov is currently in the bat population of South Africa.
They have stated that the virus has a very high transmission rate and a very high death rate. Additionally, they stated that although it is exclusively among animals it can even spread to humans.
Scientists have said that the virus is only one mutation away from spreading to humans and quickly infecting them. Furthermore, the research shows that the virus poses a higher risk because it binds the ACE2 receptor differently than the Covid-19 pathogen.
As a result, neither anti-bodies nor protein molecules produced by people with respiratory nor the people who have been immunized can protect against NeoCov. Such qualities make NeoCov more lethal.
The scientific community has asked the global community to conduct more research so that vaccinations can be created sooner rather than later. Scientists will be able to learn more about how to protect individuals from similar viruses in the future as a result of this research.
