Amou Haji, a 94-year-old Iranian man, also known as the ‘world’s dirtiest man’ died on October 23, when he took his first bath, in the village of Dejgah, IRNA news agency reported.
Who is Amou Haji?
According to reports, Amou Haji avoided showering over the fear of falling sick. The hermit had not taken a bath with soap and water for over 60 years. A report from the local news agency stated that a few months ago he was taken to the bathroom for a shower by the villagers. It was also widely believed in the village that Amou Haji had suffered from some sort of personal trauma in his younger days, as a result of which he avoided washing.
Tehran Times reported that Haji would roam around the streets of his village being covered in soot and live in a shack that was built by the villagers. Haji reportedly believed that fresh food could make him sick, and thus he smoked a pipe filled with animal excrement. In 2013, a documentary film titled “The Strange Life of Amou Haji” was made on his life, according to local media outlets.
Dirtiest Man In India
A similar incident was recorded in India by the Hindustan Times, in 2009. A man named Kailash “Kalau” Singh, from a village close to Varanasi had not taken a bath for more than 30 years. He saw it as a means to end “all the problems confronting the nation”. “Every evening as villagers gather, Kalau…lights a bonfire, smokes marijuana and stands on a leg praying to Lord Shiva” reported the newspaper.
