In a recent turn of events, a Marathi woman, Tripti Devrukhkar was denied office space located in Mulund’s suburban area, Mumbai based on her ethnicity. Tripti Devrukhhar had gone to Shiv Sadan Society in the Mulund Suburban Area to find an office space, but a father-son duo denied her and stated that ‘Maharastrians are not allowed into the society’. While the woman was trying to record a video and asking the men whether they had the rules were legally binding, the phone was snatched out of her hands.
The Marathi woman took to site X (formerly Twitter) to share the video and broke down while explaining the events that occurred. The men have been identified as Praveen Thakkar and his son Nilesh Thakkar and detained by the police after the woman based on the complaint filed by the victim. A case has been filed by the Mulund police under sections 341, 323, 504, and 34.

Several opposition leaders have slammed the Mahrastrian Government and extended their support to the victim. “There is no place for Marathi people in Mumbai anymore??” questioned Nana Patole, Maharashtra Congress leader in his post on X. Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sushma Andhare, posted on Instagram criticized the government on this issue and expressed concern over the plight of Marathi women.
Sandeep Deshpande, leader of the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) also took to X and posted about the incident. Raising MNS’s core issue of Marathi “asmita”, the MNS leader said in his post that MNS would “teach a lesson to such people.”
Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) has also recorded a video where the accused were seen apologizing for their aggressive behavior.
