The Deputy CM who is also the Water Resources Minister of Karnataka, DK Shivakumar clarified that the water that was released from the KRS Dam was for Bengaluru and not for Tamil Nadu.

Amidst the ongoing protest in Mandya District by the ‘Raitha Hitarakshana Samiti‘ on Sunday regarding the water released by the KRS dam, which alleged that the water was released for Tamil Nadu when Karnataka is going through a water crisis and drought. Deputy CM clarified that the water was released into Shiva Balancing Reservoir at Malavalli from where the water is being pumped to Bengaluru
The Deputy CM also asserted that it would be foolish to release water to Tamil Nadu amidst the water crisis and drought faced by Karnataka. This statement comes after BJP and other oppositions alleged that the Congress is releasing water into Tamil Nadu to protect the DMK’s interests, which is its alliance partner in Tamil Nadu, ahead of the interests of the Farmers and the Public of Karnataka.
With Karnataka already going through a water crisis, the Cauvery issue might prove to be a highlight of the Lok Sabha election especially for the candidates of Karnataka and Tamil Nadu. After the Clarification from the Deputy CM, it was made clear that the Karnataka government does not plan to release any Cauvery water to Tamil Nadu, at least until the water crisis is averted.
