A picture of the celebrated IAS officer Tina Dabi is doing rounds on the internet as she weds fellow IAS officer Pradeep Gawande in presence of BR Ambedkar. Tina has shared the incredible news of getting married a second time on Instagram by sharing adorable and happy pictures with her fiance, Pradeep, who cracked the exam in 2013. A happy marriage is on the cards!
While some netizens call her marriage in presence of Ambedkar a ‘publicity stunt’, others advise her future generations not to take advantage of the reservation system. “The one who has failed in the decisions of his personal life will take a good decision for the country? #TinaDabi’s fiance look like #Kajriwal,” a user Twitter wrote while another user wrote “Tina Dabi never leaves a chance to get popular. Iss baar kuch naya drama kara hai inhone.”
Dabi is a Dalit woman who topped the UPSC exam in 2015. Since then, she’s been subject to a relentless media gaze that has little to do with her accomplishments and more to do with astonishment. She has been on the receiving end of endless toxic and hateful reactions. The Hindu Mahasabha termed her marriage with IAS officer Athar Amir Khan as ‘love-jihad’. Now with Ambedlar’s portrait in the background twitter users are bringing up the argument of reservation and merit to discredit her. They were quick to forget her achievements before riding on the reservation and merit bogey.
Among the chaos, the question that arises is why are women constantly trolled and questioned for their life choices? Is it too hard for us to see them happy? To put it simply can’t women live their lives the way they want? It’s high time that we normalise people remarrying and moving onto the phase of their life without being trolled for it.
