A tragic hit-and-run incident in Mumbai’s Worli area has left the city in shock and disbelief yet again. The incident, involving a speeding BMW allegedly driven by Mihir Shah, the son of a Shiv Sena leader, resulted in the death of Kaveri Nakhwa, a 45-year-old woman, and left her husband, Pradip Nakhwa, injured. The incident has sparked outrage and led to a massive search for the accused, who is currently on the run.
The Accident
The fatal collision occurred on Sunday morning when Kaveri and Pradip Nakhwa, fish sellers from Worli, Koliwada, were returning home after purchasing fish from Sassoon Dock. Their two-wheeler was hit from behind by a speeding BMW driven by Mihir Shah. The impact of the collision flung the couple in the air, and Kaveri was dragged for 100 meters, resulting in her tragic death on the way to the hospital. Pradip, miraculously, managed to jump off the car and survived with injuries.
Who is Mihir Shah?
Mihir Shah, the 24-year-old accused, is the son of Rajesh Shah, a prominent Shiv Sena (Eknath Shinde’s faction) leader from Palghar district. Mihir, who studied only till Class 10, did not pursue further education and instead joined his father’s construction business in Maharashtra. The night before the accident, Mihir, in a drunken state, asked his driver to take him on a long drive. After driving from Juhu to Worli, he decided to take the wheel and drive the rest of the way, leading to the tragic accident.
Following the accident, Mihir allegedly tried to remove a Shiv Sena sticker on the car and removed its number plate to evade any connection to his father. He then abandoned the car in Bandra, Kalanagar and fled the scene. Mihir’s father, Rajesh Shah, and his driver were arrested for allegedly aiding Mihir’s escape and are currently facing legal charges. The Mumbai Police have issued a Look Out Circular (LOC) against Mihir, and six police teams are actively searching for him.
Response from Authorities
Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has assured that the law will be upheld without bias, and the guilty will not be spared. He emphasized that the police would not shield anyone and that the incident is being treated with the seriousness it deserves. Shiv Sena (UBT) MLA Aaditya Thackeray, representing the Worli constituency, has also expressed his hope for swift action by the police to bring the accused to justice.
Legal Proceedings and Public Outcry
The accused has been booked under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including culpable homicide not amounting to murder, and is expected to be presented before a local court. The incident has sparked public outrage and demands for justice, with many calling for stringent action against the accused and his accomplices.
This tragic incident has shaken the city and drawn attention to the need for strict enforcement of traffic laws and the fair administration of justice. The search for Mihir Shah continues as the authorities work tirelessly to bring him to justice and provide closure to the grieving family of Kaveri Nakhwa.
