Three heritage sites were added to India’s tentative list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites, in the year 2022. According to the experts, the addition to the tentative list is a first step towards getting the name of the site in WHS.
The Sun Temple in Modhera and PM Modi’s hometown Vadnagar are among the new additions to the list. The rock-cut relief sculptures from Unkoti, Tripura are the third on the list.
Besides the above-mentioned sites, the Living root bridges in Jingkieng jri, Meghalaya, Veerabhadra Temple in Karnataka, and Geoglyphs from Konkan are the other additions from 2022, to the list.
About the Sites
Vadnagar is a multi-layered town with a historic value that stretches back to nearly the 8th century BCE. The region has several archaic buildings which are religious and residential.
Dedicated to Surya Dev (Sun God), the Sun Temple is one of the oldest temples of its kind. It was built in the Solanki style.
Associated with Shiva, Unakoti is a region in Tripura with holy values. Present amidst the forest area, the region is a marvel of human creation.

Unakoti, located in the northeastern region of Tripura, is known as an ancient holy place associated with Shiva worship. The site is a massive gallery set in a forested area displaying several towering low-relief images in a unique style, making it a masterpiece of human creative genius.
