Monday saw the nomination of Congress politician U.T. Khader as Speaker of the Karnataka Legislative Assembly after selecting the state’s Chief Minister and cabinet. U.T. Khader won the Vidhan Sabha election for the fifth time. He will submit his nomination for the position on Tuesday morning.

  • Deputy Leader Of The Opposition:

After the 2018 elections, Khader served as the deputy opposition leader of the Karnataka legislative assembly.

  • His Political Portfolios:

He was the Minister for Health and Family Welfare of Karnataka from 20 May 2013 to 20 June 2016 as part of the Siddaramaiah cabinet. U. T. Khader is an Indian politician from Karnataka who, since June 2018, has served as the Cabinet Minister for Urban Development and Housing.

  • His Constituency:

U.T. Khader is a fourth-term Karnataka Legislative Assembly (MLA) member representing the Mangalore seat (formerly the Ullal and Boliyar constituency).

  • Only MLA To Win From Dakshina Kannada And Udupi:

In the 2018 State election, he was the sole Indian National Congress member to win from the Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts. Santosh Kumar Rai of the BJP was defeated by him by a margin of 19,739 votes.

Khader was raised in Mangalore Ullal, where he was born. His late father, Haji U. T. Fareed, is his father, and his mother is Naseema.

When he served as the housing minister in 2018, Khader assured reporters that housing all disadvantaged families would be his top goal.

On the outskirts of Mangaluru in Kannur, he stated that 500 houses would be constructed at an estimated Rs 28.5 crore as part of the Karnataka Slum Development Board programme to offer housing amenities for the needy.

Apart from being an MLA and helping the people, U.T. Khader is an advocate by profession and earned his degree from SDM Law College under Mangalore University in 2003.

According to My Neta, Mr Khader has reported a net worth of more than Rs 2 crores with no liabilities. His spouse also owns a business. He reportedly has no criminal cases registered against him.

After his father, Haji U T Fareed, who had won elections in 1972, 1978, 1999, and 2004, passed away, U.T. Khader was elected to the Assembly for the first time in 2007. He won the assembly election in 2023 by receiving more than 52.01% of the vote in the Mangalore constituency as the INC party’s candidate.

In 2007, Khadar contested and became an MLA of the Ullal constituency. From 20 May 2013 to 20 June 2016, he served as the Karnataka State‘s health and family welfare minister.

Khader was the lone congress leader elected as a state representative in the Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts of Karnataka in the 2018 state elections. He defeated BJP candidate Santosh by a margin of 19739 votes. U. T. Khader got elected from the Mangalore constituency in the 2023 assembly election.
