The tranquility of Gurugram’s Badshahpur was shattered once again as fresh waves of violence gripped the region on Tuesday, following the recent communal clashes in neighboring Nuh, Haryana.
On Monday afternoon, clashes erupted in Nuh when a Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) procession passing through the district came under attack. Tragically, the incident resulted in the death of at least two home guards and left dozens injured, including policemen. In response to the escalating situation, Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar presided over a high-level meeting to discuss the matter and expressed concerns about a possible larger conspiracy aimed at disturbing the state’s law-and-order situation.
A disturbing scene unfolded in the main market, where a staggering number of nearly 200 men on motorbikes and SUVs rampaged through the streets, targeting predominantly biryani and other food outlets. Shockingly, fourteen shops lay vandalized in their wake, while in Sector 66, seven stores fell victim to menacing flames. The incidents have sparked growing concern among residents and authorities, who are now racing to quell the unrest and restore peace in the area.

According to the sources, the mob targeted shops owned by a specific community and shouted religious slogans like “Jai Shri Ram” in front of a mosque in Badshahpur. Consequently, the local authorities were compelled to shut down the market in response to the escalating situation.
A group of approximately 45 individuals opened fire at a mosque located in Gurugram’s sector 57, and subsequently set it ablaze, on Monday. Tragically, the attack resulted in the loss of one life, while three others sustained injuries, with one of the victims reported to be in critical condition, according to the police’s statement. The shocking violence has sent ripples of concern throughout the community, prompting authorities to launch a thorough investigation into the matter.

Gurugram’s Deputy Commissioner, Nishant Yadav, assured the public of a peaceful situation, stating that law and order were under control. He acknowledged some spill-over impacts from the previous day’s events in Nuh, which led to incidents in Sohna. However, authorities managed to bring the situation in Sohna under control by the evening, conducting a flag march for reinforcement. He reported one death at the Sector 57 mosque in Gurugram, along with five torched vehicles in Sohna and vandalism of 2-3 shops.
In response to the escalating violence, the Haryana government swiftly took action by implementing Section 144 CRPC in both Gurugram and Nuh on Monday. Additionally, late on Monday night, a further precautionary measure was put into effect as all educational institutions in Gurugram, Faridabad, and Palwal were ordered to remain closed on Tuesday. These decisions were taken to curb the potential for further unrest and to ensure the safety and security of the residents in the affected area.
