As one can create many cuisines from the same kitchen, cloud kitchens have grown in popularity in the era of food delivery applications. However, a Reddit user brought up the concern of cleanliness and hygienic conditions in cloud kitchens after posting images of a Bengaluru cloud kitchen in disarray.
Dozing_dog, a Reddit member, claimed to be a part-time employee of a food delivery service. In the Reddit post, he asserted that he witnessed a man returning a piece of momo to the steamer after it had landed on the dirtiest floor he had ever seen. In the post, he also included three images that demonstrated the filthy conditions in the cloud kitchen.
Another commenter noted that the cloud kitchen appeared to be Kouzina, which runs various brands. Warm Oven, Kaati Zone, Indiana Burgers, Cupcake Bliss, Slurpy Shakes, Dessert Zone, Biryani Zone, and Momo Zone are just a few of the brands owned by Kouzina Food Tech.
When contacted, Mahesh Madiyala, founder and COO of Kouzina Food Tech, did not deny that the first picture was taken in their Bengaluru cloud kitchen. He said that a disgruntled former employee who was fired for misconduct was behind an extensive conspiracy to damage the company.
He said, “We operate cloud kitchens all over India and in Bengaluru we have 16 branches. This photo is from our cloud kitchen located in Electronic City. However, the photos seem to be manipulated to show us in poor light. This seems to be the handiwork of a former employee, a hotel management graduate, who seems well versed with Reddit.”
Kouzina has reportedly been in operation for ten years, and all of its cloud kitchens are FSSAI-licensed, according to Madiyala. He said, “I challenge you to check out any of our cloud kitchen and see the working conditions for yourself. We believe in hygiene and regularly conduct internal audits.”
He also claimed that though they own multiple brands, they don’t make more than two to three cuisines in a single cloud kitchen.
A Redditor commented, “Food regulation department is a joke in India. These people need to be fined heavily and probably jailed for intentionally harming their customers.”
Another commented, “I usually only order from places I have been to physically. I once had a very bad experience with Mojo Pizza, they had sent me undercooked and foul-smelling food and when I tried to find the place in google maps. All I could see was a kitchen like this.”
