In reference to a recent incident in Udupi, Bengaluru police detained and then released a BJP women activist who questioned whether the Karnataka chief minister would describe it as “children’s play” if his wife or daughter-in-law were secretly recorded in a washroom. The activist, Shakuntala H S, was replying to a post on social media by Congress that referred to the Udupi occurrence as a “communal issue” involving a kid’s prank.
Three young minority girl students in Udupi were suspended for allegedly recording another student in a washroom at a paramedical institution and bringing phones into the building despite a restriction.
The alleged video recording event at Netra Jyoti College was reported to the Udupi police, who filed an FIR. The Malpe police have accused the three girls and college director Rashmi Prasad of outraging a woman’s modesty.

According to the police’s FIR, the three girls wanted to film one particular girl, but instead, they captured another student. However, they destroyed the footage in front of the student who was being recorded. Shakuntala tweeted asking if the CM would be this dismissive if his own family were recorded after Congress branded it a BJP-spun communal problem.
A Congress worker filed a complaint alleging her tweet defamed the CM. “The BJP activist was arrested and released on station bail,” a Bengaluru police officer said.
The BJP had already objected and demanded that the girls implicated be taken into custody. The college director requested anticipatory bail on Friday, but the three charged youngsters appeared in court and posted bond.
