Shockingly, this distressing video has been widely circulated across social media platforms, bringing to light the gravity of the situation. While senior police officers have refrained from commenting on the matter, mid-level police officials have confirmed the authenticity of the incident, which took place on May 4.
This incident occurred in the Meitei-dominated valley district of Thoubal. However, the victims took the courageous step of filing a formal complaint at a police station in their home district of Kangpokpi. In response, a zero FIR (First Information Report) was registered in Kangpokpi, and the case was subsequently forwarded to the police station concerned in Thoubal for further investigation and action.
Tragically, the violence didn’t end there, as the mob, reportedly consisting of around 800 to 1000 individuals, also took the lives of two family members of the victims, as stated in the filed First Information Report (FIR). This appalling incident has sparked outrage and demands for justice from the public and authorities alike.
Following the video’s release, the Indigenous Tribal Leaders’ Forum, an amalgamation of registered tribes in Churachandpur, reacted strongly by urging the state and central governments, as well as the National Commission for Scheduled Tribes and the National Commission for Women, to acknowledge the distressing incident and take decisive action against those responsible. Their demand for justice and accountability highlights the gravity of the situation and the need for immediate measures to address the perpetrators’ action.
