Indian Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman presented her last budget as a part of the current NDA government on Wednesday, February 1. The budget carries the idea of ‘Amrit Kaal’, launched by the current government, 25 years before 2047. The period is to mark the centenary of Indian independence.
While the budget was a clear winner for several people, it was a mixed bag for many others. Meanwhile, social media erupted with reactions from people across the country who publicly stated their opinion, whether in favour or against the budget.
The highlight of the budget for 2023 is the tax slab. The Minister announced that those earning Rs. 7 lahks per annum will not have to pay any taxes. This increases the upper limit from 5 lakhs to 7 lakhs.
Under old Tax Regime, you were basically paying no tax if your income was 9.5 Lakhs and you avail deductions.
Under New Regime, that limit is reduced to 7 Lakhs. No deductions in new regime.
So don't let Modi Govt fool you by headlines.#Budget2023 pic.twitter.com/VSAsZ2TVuI

Several items have become more expensive. The likes of electric kitchen utensils also make it to the list. Social media has caught the reaction of smokers who will again have to pay more for buying cigarettes, as even that falls into the category of more expensive items.

The budget speech is known for being long and extremely verbose. The terminology used in the speech by the FM is usually a little tough for a layman, especially for a non-commerce background individual to understand. This aspect of the budget also got highlighted, rather funnily by social media.

2023 was the first occasion when a female Finance Minister presented the annual budget to a female President of the country. This moment was hailed by netizens, who called it an example of Nari shakti.
