His next, ‘Bachchan Pandey’ has been in the news for a long time. The movie was originally made for a direct theatre release. However, the inevitable third wave of COVID 19 in India made the makers keep the other options open.
According to a report by Koimoi, the film was in its final stages to sign a contract for a direct OTT release. Nadiadwala, the producer, who saw the film, decided to go ahead with the theatrical release because of its sheer scale.
Would the movie have made profits if it had stuck to the original deal of a direct OTT release? YES! Reports suggest that the Farhad Samji directorial was offered a whopping Rs. 175 crore for its direct release on the platform. In that case, the movie would have become an instant success, like the actor’s previous OTT release, ‘Laxxmi’.
Considering the current times, the producers seem to have taken a leap of faith. The movie’s price on OTT would dip significantly post the theatrical release.
Besides Kumar, ‘Bachchan Pandey stars Arshad Warsi and Kriti Sanon in lead roles. The movie will be released in theatres on 18th March.
