It is the start of a new month and Bengaluru South MP, Tejasvi Surya has landed in another controversy.
Bengaluru NavaNirmana Party has accused the BJP leader of painting his party’s logo on public property and sharing the video of the same on his Instagram handle.
Besides BNP, several other non-political voices have called out the action of Bengaluru MP. He is being accused of violating the BBMP’s Advertisement Bye-laws (2006), by painting on the walls of the city. BNP has demanded action against him after his painting gig which was a part of BJP’s ongoing Vijaya Sankalpa Abhiyana before the assembly elections. The High Court has strictly prohibited painting on walls as outdoor advertisements.
Tejasvi Surya posted the photo on his Instagram and captioned it saying, “As part of the Vijay Sankalpa Abhiyan, I had the opportunity to wall paint our party’s logo in Jayanagar today.”
“No person or party is allowed to misuse public space in this manner, it is against the court’s order. Why, despite being aware of the irresponsible act by the BJP leader, has the BBMP not initiated any action against him? We demand that the Joint Commissioners and Chief Engineers of the zones take this seriously and take action against BJP MP Tejasvi Surya without any fear or favour.” said BNP while condemning the act.

Not the first painting!
The MP had participated in a similar activity last month as a part of the same campaign of the BJP. On January 22, he posted a snippet on Instagram and wrote: “Participated in Karnataka BJP’s Vijaya Sankalpa Abhiyana in Padmanabhanagar, Bengaluru today along with our leaders. We’re taking the good work of our double-engine governments led by PM Shri Narendra Modi Ji and CM Shri Basavraj Bommai Jo to the people. Glimpses of the interaction!”
BBMP assures an action
Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagar Palike (BBMP) officials have assured the public of action against the BJP Mp. They stated that an action will be initiated after a due investigation. “I have got information about this. It is illegal, and action will be taken against the people who have painted on public walls.”
The nature of action is still not clear (as of February 4, 2023).
