On the afternoon of February 15, 2023, Indian Cricket Team registered history by being on the top spot in ICC rankings of teams in Test, ODI, and T20I. India became the only second country in the world and the first Asian country to have achieved the feat. However, the miracle did not last long.

India defeated the visiting Australian team by a margin of an innings in the first match. Following the massive victory, team India got a boost in their points. The victory, coupled with a technical glitch at the ICC’s end made India the Numero Uno in the world, across formats. Team India is already placed at the top spot in the limited-overs format.

While the Indian team was at the top spot, Rohit Sharma and co. had a total of 115 rating points, while the Australians had moved to second place with 111 points. In what was a technical glitch, the men in blue moved to second place even after not playing a game, as Australia made it to the top with a total of 126 ranking points. The entire ranking fiasco led to a heated discussion about the criteria for ICC points, online.
After the defeat in the World T20, team India made a resurgent comeback in all the formats. Post the World Cup, the Indian team lost an away ODI series in New Zealand and Bangladesh each. However, following the defeats, there has been no looking back. India made it to the top spot in the ODI rankings after defeating New Zealand 3-0 in a home series. Earlier that win, the men in blue had defeated the Windies team to clinch the top spot in the T20I rankings.

The second Test match of the Border Gavaskar Trophy will be played at the Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium from February 17.
