Suryakumar Yadav’s rise in the international arena has been a fairy tale. The Mumbai batter made his international debut after having toiled in the domestic circuit for over more than a decade. However, since then it has been no stopping this stylish right-hander, who currently holds the number 1 position in the ICC T20 batter’s ranking (male).
SKY and Mumbai Indians
Suryakumar Yadav made his first-class debut for Mumbai in 2010, against Delhi. He soon made it to the headlines, given his flamboyant style of stroke playing. He was first picked by the home franchise in 2012. He just played one game with the Mumbai Indians and got out for a zero. He was released by the Mumbai franchise in 2013 and went to the SRK-owned Kolkata Knight Riders in the following season.
Suryakumar Yadav returned to the Mumbai Indians in 2018. He became a regular member of the playing 11, and he justified his place with consistent performances which helped the team win 2 IPL titles.
New Mr. 360
The batter is known for his aggressive batting. Besides, what makes his batting look flawless is his ability to use the angles on the ground to their best capacity. Suryakumar Yadav is far from a textbook cricket batsman. He is particularly known for playing the scoop shots, and fine flicks and utilising the area towards the third man to perfection. Fifty on Debut
There was tremendous hype around Suryakumar Yadav’s debut on the international stage. The talented batter had to wait for a long time for his chance, but when he did, he grabbed it with both his hands. In a T20 international against England in 2021, Suryakumar Yadav faced Jofra Archer for his first ball, which he royally dispatched for a six toward the third man with his trademark hook shot.
Suryakumar Yadav went on to score a half-century in the game. The match was also a debut game for the Ranchi southpaw, Ishan Kishan.
Strike Rate Master
Since his debut in the T20 internationals, the Mumbai batter has scored over 1400 runs with a strike rate of a whopping 181. Besides, he has scored those runs at an average of 44. Surya Kumar Yadav has become the first Indian batter to score more than 1000 runs in the international calendar year, in the T20 format.
Suryakumar Yadav also holds the record for scoring most runs from boundaries in an innings. He has also hit the most number of fours in an innings by any Indian batter.
