Stand-up comedian Nishant Suri took to Instagram on October 13th to share the news that the show he was supposed to perform in Pheonix Marketcity, Whitefield was canceled as he was not paid by the event organizers. He shared his disappointment and apologized to the people who booked their tickets for the show. He stated that the organizers also sent him a forged screenshot of the money transfer and then later avoided his calls.
This revelation comes just weeks after the US comedian Trevor Noah canceled two of his shows that were scheduled under the same event organization, The Entertainment Factory as part of his Off the Record world tour. The gig was canceled due to bad acoustics and subpar arrangements at the Manpho Conventional Center, Hebbal. Several audiences who booked tickets to the event stated that they were only notified of the event cancelation after they had reached the venue. Nishant relayed that he even got a call from the driver who was supposed to take him to the venue saying that he was not paid by the event organizers and asked for Nishant’s help. The post went viral after several comics such as Gaurav Gupta, Pavitra Shetty, and Karan Singh, among others, also shared their disappointment and their experiences in the comments section. Nishant stated that he was already in Bangalore for performing in the show but stated that he had no other choice except canceling the show after they “ghosted” him.
“Once I go on stage, I know the payment is not going to come. I waited until the last moment, but they’ve now ghosted me and have stopped picking up calls and replying to messages. I even got a call from the driver of the cab they’d arranged to pick me up, saying he hasn’t been paid, and if he could do something about it. To people who’ve bought tickets, I’m extremely sorry for this..we will work on getting your refunds processed.” STOI tried to contact the company, but in vain. Suri’s manager. Baneet Chhabra, stated “Around 200-500 people were expected to attend the event. However, the organizers have not revealed any details on why the show was cancelled. We have collaborated with the Entertainment Factory before, but this was our first time to experience something like this.”
