Sooryavansham has been a constant subject of memes on social media for the longest time. The film which wasn’t received greatly at the box office went on to see countless runs on Sony TV.
On Wednesday, a letter went viral in which a viewer asked a private television channel to stop the airing of the Amitabh Bachchan-starrer family drama ‘Sooryavansham’ (1999), which is apparently screened almost every Sunday.
The letter written in Hindi read, “Nivedan hai ki aapke channel ko Sooryavansham feature film ke telecast ka theka prapt hua hai, aapki krupa se hum aur humara parivar Heera Thakur aur unke parivar (Radha, Gauri, and etc) ko acche se jaan chuke hai. Main aapke channel se yeh jaana chahta hoon ki aapka channel ab tak kitni baar iss film ka prasaran kar chuka hai? Bhavishya mein kitni baar aur iss film aur telecast kiya jayega. Yadi humari maansik stithi pe iska viprit asar (paagalpan) aata hai. Toh iska jimmedar kaun hoga? Krupa suchna dene ka kasth kare.”
The sender did not disclose any personal details and simply called himself ‘Sooryavansham-pirit’ (tortured by Sooryavansham). The letter was posted to the Mumbai office of the private channel with a query, which the sender said he hoped to receive a reply to under the Right to Information Act, 2005.
A barrage of users also empathized with the man, one wrote, “I hear you,” another added, “I can feel his pain.” A user commented, “This is just epic,” another requested, “Please stop south dubbed movies too.” Another one quipped, “Don’t waste gajar ka halwa on them who deserve Sooryavansham ki zeher wali kheer.” Another Twitterati wrote,” I’ve never seen anything more on repeat than Sooryavansham.”
Directed by EVV Satyanarayana, Sooryavansham stars Amitabh Bachchan, Soundarya, and Anupam Kher in pivotal roles.
