Popular Indian singer Shaan has responded to negative comments he received on social media after posting a picture of himself celebrating Eid while wearing a skullcap. Despite being a Hindu, Shaan decided to share the picture on Instagram to show his respect for the Muslim faith and culture.
In a video posted on the social media platform, Shaan said, “I have been seeing the comments on it… Even on occasions like Ram Navami, we post pictures wearing ethnic Indian clothes for the feel of it. I fail to comprehend how respecting faith or culture can possibly hurt your religion.” He went on to explain that he has also shared pictures of himself wearing a head covering at the Golden Temple, but did not receive any negative comments.
Shaan spoke on his IG Live. Politely explained his disagreement wrt hate comments on his Eid post to his 1.5mn followers, and how there shouldn't be hate for any festival or religion. Said that he's got many muslim friends, and this hate perturbed him.pic.twitter.com/318HFpvQc2

Shaan expressed confusion over why there was such an issue with him showing respect for different cultures, saying, “That post or that wish is not going to change the way I feel about my faith or you about yours. So why so much noise over it? We are a progressive nation, but if we cannot even harbor this much respect and tolerance, then how will we progress?”
Today Singer Shaan was trolled & abused just for wishing Eid.
And people got angry when Amir Khan talked about Intolerance.

The singer has turned off comments on the Eid post but has received overwhelming support from his followers for his post and the subsequent video. Shaan concluded by saying, “I am a Hindu and Brahmin, but I am also a person and I am an Indian, so I know how to respect everyone’s culture.”
