A businessman playing Hanuman Chalisa on speakers inside his mobile phone store in the central Bengaluru neighborhood of Nagarthpet on Sunday was allegedly assaulted by a group of men who accused him of disturbing prayers in a nearby mosque with “loud music”.
Full Story:
The row started around 6.30 pm when six people entered Mukesh’s store and demanded that he stop playing music on speakers placed near the entrance. “It’s time for Azaan and your music is disturbing us,” the complainant quoted the accused as saying. Mukesh told the men that the “loud music” they were referring to was a devotional hymn, at which they allegedly abused him. “I then asked at what time evening prayers would begin and how they were being disturbed. They used their fists and a stick to assault me. They threatened to stab me if I still dared oppose them.” He gave police CCTV footage of the assault. A police officer said investigators were looking into allegations that the claim about “disturbance to prayers” was an excuse to pick up a fight.
Police arrested three suspects — Cubbonpet residents Suleman Pasha, Shenavaz M, and Rohit Kumar — based on a complaint by store owner Mukesh G Singh. They have been charged with an attempt to murder. The FIR identifies two of the absconding men as Danish and Tarun.
The Netizens reacted to it differently, while some opposed the Congress for the appeasement politics, others called the shopkeeper “Sher”, some people also gave their opinions and called it a shopkeeper and customer dispute and not a Hindu-Muslim clash as 2 of 5 people named in the charge sheet were Hindus.
