In the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike – BBMP, a Lokayukta investigation has found a Rs 118.26 crore scandal. The anti-corruption watchdog discovered that funds given for the RR Nagar assembly constituency under the chief minister’s Nava Nagarothana initiative were diverted by submitting fraudulent bills to the Karnataka Rural Infrastructure Development Corporation (KRIDL).
In September 2020, Bangalore Rural MP D K Suresh filed a complaint, prompting the investigation.
Lokayukta Justice P Vishwanath Shetty, who resigned on January 27, led the probe. On January 24, the government received a 60-page report. In January 2020, a Congress member claimed that Rs 250 crore intended for 126 projects was squandered without any of the projects being completed. He had requested that BBMP and KRIDL engineers be detained.
The Lokayukta analysis brings out major flaws in the manner in which 14 projects were completed. Only two works were determined to be competently executed. “Some works were not executed at all. A few works were poorly executed while others were taken up without following the tender conditions,” the report indicates.
Officers should face disciplinary action within two months, according to the report’s recommendations.
