The beautiful Aditi Rao Hydari belongs to not one but two royal lineages. She was born in Hyderabad to Ehsaan Hydari and Vidya Rao. Born in Hyderabad on October 28, 1986, Aditi’s parents were among prominent personalities in the state. Aditi’s mother Vidya Rao, was a renowned classical singer.
She is the great-granddaughter of Akbar Hydari, former prime minister of Hyderabad during colonial rule. Her maternal grandfather Raja J Rameshwar Rao was the erstwhile Raja of Wanaparthy family, who headed the administration of Wanaparthy state during the Nizam rule. He was a much respected educationalist in the city of Hyderabad, the founder of Vidyaranya school and the chairperson of the publishing house Orient Blackswan.
Her parents separated when she was two years old. Her mother moved from Hyderabad to New Delhi and managed her family business from there. While her father remarried and did not have children, her mother remained single. Hydari spent her childhood in both Hyderabad and New Delhi. She started learning Bharatanatyam at age six and became a disciple of acclaimed dancer Leela Samson. Aditi Rao Hydari is the grand niece of Muhammad Saleh Akbar Hydari, former Governor of Assam.
Her paternal side of the family is a Bohri muslim and her maternal side belongs to Wanaparthy Samasthanam. Her cultural background is therefore a mix of Bohri, Chitrapur Saraswat and Telugu.
Aditi Rao Hydari also has a Bollywood family connection. She is the maternal first-cousin of Kiran Rao. Kiran Rao is a well-known director in Bollywood who was married to Aamir Khan.
She made her debut in the world of films with a Tamil period drama titled as ‘Sringaram’, where she played the role of a Devadasi. However, the actor rose to fame in 2011 with her performance in Sudhir Mishra’s crime thriller “Yeh Saali Zindagi “. She is best known for her performance in Bollywood films, including Murder 3, Rockstar, Delhi 6, London Paris New York, and Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Padmaavat. She still continues to do regional films and was the leading lady of Mani Ratnam’s ‘Kaatru Veliyidai’ that released last year.
