Star director Shankar is collaborating with Ranveer Singh to make one of the biggest PAN India movies ever made in the country, in the form of a trilogy. The duo was in talks for a movie for the last few months. While earlier it was supposed to be a Hindi remake of the director’s 2005 Tamil blockbuster, but the project was later shelved.
S. Shankar is planning to go all out with his second PAN India venture after 2.0. The movie with Singh, is touted to be the biggest PAN India event in the country, after the Baahubali series. The trilogy will be based on the iconic Tamil Epic Novel Velpari, considered to be one of the most important pieces of literature in Tamil language.
Sources have stated that the director wanted to get the biggest superstar of the current generation on board for his ambitious project.
More About Velpari
The novel is based on the titular character Velpari. He was a king who challenged all three great clans of the Tamil kingdom, Cholas, Cheras, and Pandyas. The cinematic retelling of the novel was long overdue as several makers aspired to bring it to the big screen.
The story has a larger-than-life hero, a love story, and a scope for some breathtaking visual effects. Reportedly mounted on an unprecedented budget the movie has all the elements required for a PAN India blockbuster.
Ranveer Replaced This Tamil Superstar?
As soon as the collaboration was announced, a controversy started making rounds. Shankar planning to bring the novel to the screen had been in news for some time, but it was rumoured that he was set to team up with Suriya for the epic. Due to unknown reasons, the cast has been changed and Ranveer Singh is all set to play the Tamil King.
Many people are also apprehensive about the fact that a Hindi Film actor has been chosen to play a role as important as Velpari, over any other Tamil actor.
Velpari will go on floors in mid-2023, and it is considered to be the biggest project that the director and the actor have ever worked on. Shankar is currently shooting for his next with Kamal Haasan, Indian 2.
