Three months before the assembly elections in the state of Karnataka, Prime Minister Modi inaugurated the Shivamogga Airport. The Prime Minister was accompanied by senior BJP leader and the former Chief Minister of the state, BS Yediyurappa, who also turned 80 today.
The airport which cost the authorities over ₹450 crores is designed to carry over 300 travellers every hour. The airport is also meant to boost the connectivity of the rest of the state with Shivamogga.
“Today is a special day for one more reason. It is the birthday of Karnataka’s popular leader B S Yediyurappa. I pray for his long life. He dedicated his life to the welfare of poop people, and farmers. His speech in the Karnataka Assembly last week is an inspiration for everyone leading a public life… Even after reaching the heights of success, how there should be humility in one’s behaviour – this speech of BS Yediyeappa and his life has always been inspiring for people like us and even for generations to come.” said the Prime Minister.

Besides the Shivamogga airport, the Prime Minister also laid the foundation stone of several other projects in the district. One of them is a new railway line, which is aimed at increasing the connectivity between the region of Malnad. The PM also laid the foundations of road development projects which are estimated to cost over ₹215 crores.
