In a bid to carve out a distinctive identity on the global stage, Mysuru has unveiled a new logo and tagline under the theme ‘Our Heritage Your Destination.’ The initiative, spearheaded by Minister for Tourism H.K. Patil, aims to make Mysuru instantly recognizable and promote it as a premier tourist destination. The logo features two caparisoned elephants alongside the mythical bird ‘Gandabherunda,’ emblematic of the former Mysuru Kingdom. Complementing the logo is the tagline, “Our Heritage Your Destination,” which will be a focal point in all promotional endeavors related to Mysuru tourism.
Branding Mysuru:
This branding initiative took shape during this year’s Mysuru Dasara festivities when the Tourism Department, as part of the Ministry of Tourism’s Swadesh Darshan 2.0 scheme, organized the ‘Branding Mysuru Competition-2023.’ The competition sought entries across four categories: logo and tagline design, mascot creation, innovative souvenir design, and a blog-writing contest. Over 150 participants engaged in a spirited competition to encapsulate the essence of Mysuru’s rich cultural heritage.
Logo and Tagline Triumph:
In the logo design category, L.A. Raghavendra clinched the top spot, with M. Balaswamy securing the second prize and Ridwa Shyla Rai earning the third position. The winning tagline, ‘Our Heritage Your Destination,’ emerged from the creative entry submitted by Ridwa Shyla Rai. This tagline will now serve as the guiding mantra for all promotional activities centered around Mysuru tourism.
Captivating Mascot – ‘Gajju’:
The mascot competition saw Aditi Pandit claiming the first prize for her creation, ‘Gajju.’ This adorable elephant, adorned in Mysuru Peta and traditional ‘panche’ or dhoti, embodies the gentle giant intrinsic to Mysuru’s cultural identity. ‘Gajju’ radiates child-like energy, symbolizing happiness and extending a warm welcome to explore Mysuru’s cultural tapestry. B. Praneeth Aashwinay and Sayan Pandit secured the second and third prizes, respectively, in the mascot design category.
Souvenir Design Excellence:
In the category of souvenir design, B. Praneeth Aashwinay took home the first prize for depicting a diwan, the administrative head of the Princely State of Mysore. T. Prathibha and L. Preetham Bharadwaj secured the second and third prizes, adding creative diversity to the array of souvenirs that will showcase Mysuru’s historical significance.
Blogging the Mysuru Experience:
The blog contest, another facet of this comprehensive competition, witnessed Sindhu S. Shastry claiming the top spot with her blog titled ‘Discover Mysuru: Where the Past Paints the Present.’ Meghana Bhaskara and S.M. Meenakshi secured the second and third prizes, respectively, with their blogs ‘Rendezvous with Mysuru’ and ‘MYSURU is a Multifaceted, Multicultural and Multidimensional city.’
Recognition and Rewards:
All winners across categories were honored with cash prizes of Rs. 20,000 (first), Rs. 10,000 (second), and Rs. 5,000 (third). The meticulous selection process involved a mix-and-match approach by the Tourism Department, with the final logo and tagline receiving the stamp of approval from Deputy Commissioner Dr. K.V. Rajendra.
