According to information provided by a police official, a 27-year-old doctor working at Mumbai’s civic-run KEM hospital was the victim of fraud and lost Rs. 1.40 lakh after ordering 25 plates of samosas from a well-known restaurant in Sion, Mumbai.
The doctor ordered samosas for their trip and planned a picnic with his colleagues at Karjat, a city near Mumbai. He ordered food after discovering a restaurant’s phone number online. The officer informed PTI that when they called the number, the individual who answered demanded an Rs. 1,500 advance payment for the 25 samosas.
The order confirmation and the bank account information needed to continue with the online payment were then sent to the doctor over WhatsApp.
Since he trusted the procedure, the doctor sent Rs. 1,500 to the designated accounts Rs. 1,500 to the designated account since he trusted the process. The caller then gave the doctor the order to create a transaction ID for the payment. Unfortunately, while following the instructions, the doctor lost a cumulative amount of Rs 1.40 lakh, with Rs 28,807 being the initial loss.
Between 8:30 and 10:30 AM last week, the incident took place. According to the official, the victim complained to the police in Bhoiwada, and a case was opened under the appropriate provisions of the Indian Penal Code and the Information Technology Act.
