Hours after the Morbi Bridge Tragedy in Gujarat, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the city. The opposition parties and the netizens have started asking tough questions, more importantly about the ‘sprucing’ up of the hospitals.
While the wounds of the injured and the grief of the dead were still very fresh, the authorities seemed more interested in renovating the place for the visit of the Prime Minister. The Government Civil Hospital saw an overnight facelift before the Prime Minister’s visit on Tuesday.

Hospitals Renovated Overnight
Reports suggest that Painters, carpenters, and masons were working overtime to get the work done, and sweepers were brought from Rajkot City to help the locals. The walls of the hospitals were painted, new beds were purchased, new cabins were built, new tiles replaced the older ones and several other minor changes were brought in. The floors were deep cleaned and new bed sheets replaced the older ones, a few of them had markings of a hospital in Jamnagar. Local reporters have put out video reports showing the makeover
B.V Srinivas, Youth Congress President commented at the ‘eventbaazi’ of the BJP by writing – “Aaj Morbi mein lashon ka event hai (There’s an event of corpses in Morbi today).
Modi ji is visit to Morbi hospital, and the preparations made for his visit, remind us of Munnabhai MBBS.

New mattresses and bedsheets in Morbi Hospital.
For Modi's visit, the BJP Govt must have spent more money on the hospital's makeover than the bridge's maintenance. pic.twitter.com/oqpp43eqLq

Selected Patients Only!
The Prime Minister’s visit also saw him interacting with a few patients. A report by the NDTV stated that a few select patients were allowed to speak to the Prime Minister. Those patients were briefed about the conversation and were shifted to different rooms, with better and newer equipment.

There are statements of the relatives who claimed that the instant upgradation was done only for the visit of the Prime Minister, whereas in reality the necessities of the patients were ignored. The Congress has slammed the ‘Gujarat Model’. The Youth Congress posted a video showing that the parts of the roads leading up to the hospitals were being re-laid before the visit of the PM.
The opposition parties have also questioned the lack of development in the health infrastructure of the state where the BJP has ruled for the majority of the last few decades.
The hospital being decked up before Modi’s visit is the defining picture of the #Morbi tragedy.
Poor die on collapsing bridges. Rich die on badly designed highways.
