The President of the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee, DK Shivakumar, has found himself embroiled in a controversy after he allegedly threw ₹500 currency notes during the Congress ‘Praja Dhwani Yatra’ in Srirangapatna on March 28. The incident led to a complaint by the Election Commission, resulting in a non-cognisable offence being registered against Shivakumar by the Mandya Court.

The Chief Minister of Karnataka, Basavraj Bommai, expressed his displeasure at Shivakumar’s actions, stating that “People of Karnataka are not beggars” and criticising the Congress leader’s behaviour towards the performing artists.
“Here is a perfect example of how the president of the KPCC, DK Shivakumar, treats people. See how he is throwing money at the artists. People of Karnataka are not beggars,” said the Chief Minister of State, Basavraj Bommai, in response to the event.

Despite the controversy, Shivakumar remains confident in the Congress party’s readiness for the upcoming elections. He has stated that the Congress is prepared for the polls and wants the current government to be dismissed for the betterment of the state and country. Shivakumar is also running for a seat in the Kanakapura assembly and is considered a potential candidate for the role of Chief Minister of Karnataka.
“Congress is ready for elections, we want this govt to be dismissed. The earlier this govt is dismissed, the better it is for the state and country. This election will be development-oriented and for a corruption-free state and country,” Shivakumar told reporters.
