Elumalai’s extensive list of traffic violations, spanning over two years, came to light when the police identified him among the violators with over 50 offenses. The fines accumulated to a substantial Rs 1.34 lakh, prompting authorities to take action against the repeat offender.
Working as a daily wager, Elumalai remained oblivious to the presence of ITMS cameras installed in the vicinity of his residence. Over the past two to three years, both Elumalai and his son repeatedly breached traffic regulations by not wearing helmets, unknowingly getting captured by the surveillance cameras.
According to a senior police officer, cases like Elumalai are becoming increasingly common, particularly as law enforcement agencies intensify efforts in collecting data on vehicles with over 50 violations. The advent of digitalized traffic fine payment systems has facilitated the identification and tracking of individuals with multiple offenses.
