Salman Khan’s highly anticipated Eid release, Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan, hit Indian screens on April 21, with the widest release since Shah Rukh Khan’s Pathaan. However, some key single-screen theatres in Delhi have decided not to screen the film.
According to a report by Bollywood Hungama, Liberty, Delite, and Ambra theatres will not be showing Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan, as they have signed a contract with Zee Studios to exclusively show Ajay Devgn’s Maidaan and Sunny Deol’s Gadar 2. Despite the clash with Ranbir Kapoor’s Animal, theatre owners believe Gadar 2 has the potential to perform well.
“Maidaan releases on June 23, a week after Adipurush. The Prabhas-starrer can surprise, and the exhibitors felt that it was not a good idea to discontinue playing it and replace it with Maidaan, especially if it’s doing well,” read the Bollywood Hungama report.
As a result, the theatres have decided to show Chengiz, a Bengali film dubbed in Hindi, with Amba and Delite even choosing to re-release Pathaan. Liberty, on the other hand, is showing two screenings of Chengiz and three screenings of the Punjabi film Annhi Dea Mazaak Ae, which was released on the same day as Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan and stars Ammy Virk.
However, another source claimed that discussions are ongoing, and the issue will be resolved soon. The report suggests that Delite will screen Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan, and other cinemas are expected to follow suit.
