Kannada Superstar Kiccha Sudeep joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) as their star campaigner as the state gears up for the upcoming elections. This marks Sudeep’s entry into the world of politics if it materialises. The polls in Karnataka are scheduled for May 10, and the counting of votes will take place on May 13.
According to reports, Sudeep will campaign for the party from the Kalyana-Karnataka region. The BJP is hoping to leverage the actor’s massive popularity to strengthen their position in the state. The move is also expected to attract voters from Sudeep’s Nayaka caste, a politically significant community in Karnataka.
While this is the first time Sudeep will officially campaign for a political party, he has been in talks with other parties in the past. In February, Karnataka Congress Chief DK Shivakumar met Sudeep at his residence, which sparked rumours about the actor’s political affiliations. However, it was later clarified that the meeting was purely personal.
Several film stars from different languages in India have shown their allegiance with either the party in power or the opposition. However, Sudeep’s campaign for the BJP would be the first time an A-list actor has campaigned for a political party on the ground.
The BJP’s move to rope in Sudeep is seen as a strategic one as he enjoys a massive fan following in the state. With the elections just around the corner, it remains to be seen how this move will impact the poll outcome.
