Karnataka Labour Minister Santosh Lad will coordinate the rescue operations in Odisha. Karnataka Chief Minister Siddarmaiah appointed the minister to oversee the operations following the three-way train accident in Odisha. According to reports, the death toll has gone up to 261 as of 2:15 pm on June 3.
One of the primary responsibilities of the ministers would be to assist Karnataka people who were injured in the train accident.
“Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has deputed a team led by Minister Shri Santosh Lad to ensure the safety of Kannadigas in Balasore train accident incident. The Chief Minister has sought reports from the Chief Secretary and has directed the concerned officers to visit the spot to ensure the safety of Kannadigas and provide all necessary support to them.” wrote CM of Karnataka CM’s Twitter Handle.
The Coromandel train crash is considered to be one of the most horrific railway accidents since independence. The crash has caused the death of more than 261 people and harmed 900 others, the final number is still awaited.
The railway minister has announced an ex-gratia of Rs. 10 lakhs for the family of the deceased, Rs. 2 lakhs for those grievously injured and Rs. 50,000 for individuals with minor injuries. Besides, the Prime Minister has also announced an additional ex-gratia of Rs. 2 lakh to the family, and 50,000 for the injured from the PM’s National Relief Fund.
