In a video that recently surfaced, Karan Johar is heard admitting that he almost “ruined” Anushka Sharma’s career. According to Johar, he had asked Aditya Chopra not to cast Sharma in the movie “Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi,” stating that there was “no need for you to sign this Anushka Sharma.” Reports suggest that Johar had wanted Sonam Kapoor to be cast in the lead role instead.
However, Sharma went on to make her debut in “Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi ” opposite Shah Rukh Khan, which was a huge hit and kickstarted her career as one of the most formidable leading actresses in the industry.
Johar made these comments during a talk at the 18th MAMI Mumbai Film Festival in 2016, where he admitted that he had tried to “sabotage” Sharma’s career. However, he also revealed that Sharma’s performance in “Band Baaja Baaraat” completely changed his perception of her. He called her to apologize and offer his compliments, stating that he felt embarrassed for nearly ruining the career of an exceptional talent.
Johar has been a controversial figure in Hindi Cinema, with several other celebrities, including Kangana Ranaut, calling him out for his alleged mistreatment of fellow actors. Despite this, Johar remains a prominent figure in the industry, and his comments regarding Sharma have once again sparked debate about the treatment of actors in Bollywood.
