Actor-director Rishab Shetty’s gargantuan hit Kantara on Tuesday earned two Oscar qualifications. Hombale films and filmmaker-actor Rishab Shetty expressed their excitement after Kantara received two Oscar qualifications: Best Pictures and Best Actor.
Sharing the news on Twitter Hombale Films team wrote, “We are overjoyed to share that ‘Kantara’ has received 2 Oscar qualifications! A heartfelt thank you to all who have supported us. We look forward to share this journey ahead with all of your support. Can’t wait to see it shine at the #Oscars #Kantara #HombaleFilms .”
The voting for the Oscar ballots happens between January 11 and January 17. The final nominations will be announced on January 24. “We have submitted our application for Oscars for Kantara and have our fingers crossed as the final nominations are yet to come,” Hombale Productions founder Vijay Kirgandur told India Today.
The film takes its inspiration from the ancient ritualistic practice Bhoota Kola, which means spirit worship, and tells the tale of oppression faced by tribal people on multiple fronts. During the movie’s successful run in the theaters, netizens urged the makers to submit the film to Oscar and they trended with various hashtags trending to send the film to the Academy Awards.
India is expected to make a big splash at the 95th Academy Awards. Gujarati movie Chhello Show (‘Last Film Show‘) has been selected as India’s official entry for the Best International Feature Film category at the Oscars.
