RRR and The Elephant Whisperers made India proud at the Oscars by winning two awards for the country. What should have been a moment of celebration for all the Indians, has instead become a matter of Twitter fights, given how the Oscars Host Jimmy Kimmel introduced the Naatu Naatu song.
“This year we are not gonna play you off stage, instead we have a group of performers from the movie RRR who are going to dance you offstage,” said the host. He later added that RRR is SS Rajamouli’s ‘Bollywood movie’.
Okay there. #RRR is NOT a Bollywood movie. It's a Telugu movie from the Indian film industry.
Huge congratulations to #NaatuNaatu and #TheElephantWhisperers for #Oscar wins again. Cheers to Indian cinema!! 🌟

This statement by Jimmy Kimmel has not gone down very well with netizens in India as many called him out for not doing the basic research.
RRR is NOT a Bollywood movie.
– Signed, my Telugu husband.

Can't believe the writers + Jimmy Kimmel referred to #RRR as a Bollywood movie at the #Oscars

It was not a slap but was a tight slap 🥲
"#RRR is not a #Bollywood Movie, It's a Telugu Movie"

The reactions of social media users range from being educative to angrily calling out the Oscars for the lack of knowledge they have about the diversity in the film industries around the globe.
Several social media users used this opportunity to come up with funny memes, while sarcastically calling out the Academy through the same.
Hot take – The celebrations of RRR stinks of internalized racism. You know what RRR most closely resembles? Those bollywood parodies made in American movies/sitcoms with loud dance routines and unreasonable rustic action. Now, they believe this is the best of Indian cinema. https://t.co/Qi9M2E9sY6

India At The Oscars
India created history at the Oscars by winning two awards in major categories. Besides RRR, Kartiki Gonsalves’ ‘The Elephant Whisperers’ became the first ever Indian production to win the award.
