The Karnataka Traffic Police Department has given a major relief to the commuters in the state. The authorities have announced that they will be slashing the violation fines by 50%, if the payment is made by February 11. The discount is for those who would be making the one-time payment of their pending traffic e challans.
The decision regarding a slash in the fines was made in a meeting headed by Justice b Veerappa, who is the executive chairman of the Karnataka State Legal Services Authority. The officials resolved to “request the Transport Department to take steps at the earliest and report compliance to ensure access to justice for all.”
The Traffic Commissioner of Bengaluru stated that over two crore e-challans cases, which amount to over Rs. 500 crores are pending. The cases in Bengaluru city account for over 80% of pending cases across the state.
“On our website, anyone can look up any cases that are outstanding against their vehicle and submit a payment. By Friday, the Bengaluru Traffic Police website interface will be updated, and a link will be provided,” he added.
