Central Government had launched Mission Ganga and sent four Union ministers, Jyotiraditya Scindia, Hardeep Singh Puri, General (Retired) Dr. VK Singh, and Kiren Rijiju to evacuate all the Indian nationals stranded in war-torn Ukraine.
It was estimated that there were 20,000 Indian Nationals stuck in Ukraine, as the situation became life-threatening, alleged videos and pictures of Indians at borders being assaulted and beaten up by Ukrainian officials surfaced which brought a lot of pressure on the Government to act quickly.

Amidst all these situations Prime Minister Modi has been highly criticized by netizens for carrying out election rallies instead of planning and executing an effective evacuation, this criticism rose as the students stuck in the war zone spoke about how the embassy is just putting out the information to reach the border which is hundreds of kilometers away from their locations and that the embassy or the government isn’t evacuating them from the dangerous locations or the risky journey that they have to undertake to reach the borders.
Union Minister for Law and Parliamentary Affairs, Prahlad Joshi made a statement on Tuesday, he said, “Ninety percent of Indians who study medicine abroad fail to clear qualifying exams in India. This is not the right time to debate why students are moving out to study medicine.”
This sparked a huge controversy on the Indian Education system, and how lack of seats, reservations, and hefty private fee structure forces Indian students to reach other countries to land a degree.
#ukraineindianstudents Union M.P Joshi [only B.A.passed?]says that90% of students go abroad because they could not clear NEET. Unqualified to pass the remark. Let the Govt establish affordable Medical colleges as per need[not as per NEET], no one will leave the country.

Nikhil Pratap ( IG : doc2remember ) , I appreciate this. 👏🏽 Thanks for speaking on behalf of all those students. They are disheartened with fellow Indians lack of empathy and sympathy. But like we say : we all can hope for the better world.🕊 #UkraineIndianStudents #Kyiv pic.twitter.com/LNs4Mt7Czm

Twitter users also criticized the Prime Minister’s PR campaign applauding him for airlifting students from Romania, Poland, Hungary, etc. This criticism seemed to be rooted in the fact that the students who are still stranded in Ukraine have been denied contact from the embassy and that they are on their own till they reach the borders, which is the most challenging and life-threatening part, one of the tweets read,
Yet the @narendramodi Government
is busy doing PR.#KhotikarokModi #UkraineRussianWar https://t.co/T2JNYxFPVm— Khotikarok Modi (@khotikarokmodi) March 4, 2022
Local Politician Srinivas BV also took to his Twitter handle to call out the Government on delayed evacuation, he said,
I have received hundreds of Calls/SOS msgs from students stranded in Ukraine or at the border, but we are all helpless coz no ordinary citizen can help beyond international boundaries.
This needs serious efforts from the government without any PR Drama.

Sad state of affairs. And the government is busy praising the PM, doing PR for him for airlifting students from Romania, Poland, Hungary etc.
Someone should tell them that the war is in Ukraine and the students are stuck there.pic.twitter.com/5up3bCtaH2— Ravi Nair (@t_d_h_nair) March 4, 2022
Some Twitter users compared this crisis to the Migrant Crisis,
This is MODI’s new India. 😭#ukraineindia #ukraineindianstudents #IndiaHasWeakPM pic.twitter.com/irmOhOCbds
