India’s gaming industry is ready to step into a bigger and better arena. Today the country is a game content programming and development nucleus for several western countries. This prominent trend has been observed both in the mobile and online gaming sectors.
The ‘India Gaming Report FY 2022’ spelled good news for the gaming industry. Released by Lumikai, a gaming and interactive media fund, the report suggests a fast-growing gaming market with improving user engagement stats and booming investments.
Also with a drastic fall in the prices of Android and iOS interface based handsets and tablets, gaming has become inevitable, especially amongst youth and yuppies. This has proven to be a great boon for Game Development Company India. These advances in the gaming industry have been motivating for game designing and development as a lucrative career option in the country.
The global gaming industry which comprises game developers, service providers (outsourcing companies that help with art creation, testing, localisation, audio, visual effects etc.), and hardware manufacturers is currently pegged at over $150 billion globally. Gaming is the largest segment within the Entertainment industry, far exceeding Movies (Hollywood + Bollywood), Music & Animation across the world.
“The gaming industry in India is growing at a healthy pace, due to increased adoption of advanced gaming technologies, enhanced adoption among consumers, and significant rising demand for mobile gaming. With the increasing popularity and demand, India is likely to become a global hub for gaming in the near future,” said Anurag Khurana, Founder and CEO of Newgen Gaming in an interview.
According to the report, Indian gaming companies are on track to raise $513 million by the end of FY 2022, which is a 380 per cent increase since 2019. Interestingly, most investments have come since 2020, coinciding with the Covid-19 period. The corresponding period also saw three Indian gaming unicorns namely MPL, Games 24×7 and Dream11.
Games on the mobile platform now look increasingly realistic and very attractive to the new generation. Not just the graphics, the game play mechanics are cutthroat and complex, enhancing game play like never seen before on a handheld device.
Online gaming has been growing exponentially in India mainly driven by the adoption of online gaming especially mobile gaming, an increase in professional gaming events and e-sports, better infrastructure, connectivity and availability of technologically advanced devices.
