The Forest department of the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has recently taken stringent action against G R Tech Park and Salarpuria Properties Pvt Ltd in Whitefield for the unauthorized felling of 19 ashoka trees near the ITPL main road. This violation, carried out without proper authorization, has prompted the BBMP to register a case, citing a breach of Section 8(1) of the Karnataka Preservation of Trees Act, 1976.

The citizens wrote to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, urging action against the illegal felling of trees near G R Tech Park and Salarpuria Properties Pvt Ltd in Whitefield. Responding to these complaints, the Officer on Special Duty alerted BBMP officials about the violation and pressed for necessary measures to be taken. Subsequently, the BBMP’s Forest department conducted an inspection at the site, revealing that out of the 35 trees examined, 19 Ashoka trees had been felled without proper authorization.
BLG Swamy, Deputy Conservator of Forests (DCF) at the Forest department of BBMP, informed the media that a fine has been levied on the responsible entities. Should they fail to remit the specified amount, a chargesheet will be submitted to the court. Swamy further stated that an ongoing inquiry is underway to identify the individuals or entities responsible for the illegal felling of the trees.
The FIR, a legal document detailing the offense, emphasized the location of the unauthorized act. The trees were situated on the roadside, directly in front of the G R Tech Park and Salarpuria Properties Pvt Ltd compound. Such actions, in violation of Section 8(1) of the Karnataka Preservation of Trees Act, 1976, which imposes restrictions on tree felling, have serious consequences.
