India will start their ICC T20 World Cup on the 23rd of October 2022. The Men in Blue will face their arch-rivals Pakistan in the opening game. The International Cricket Council announced the schedule of the 8th edition of the Mega event.
The 2022 T20 World Cup will be hosted by Australia. The tournament will be played between October 16 – November 13, across seven venues – Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, Adelaide, Geelong, Hobart, and Perth.
India is placed in group two, with Pakistan, South Africa, Bangladesh, winner of Group B and runner-up in Group A. Former champions Sri Lanka and West Indies have qualified, but they will start the tournament in the first round.
The big-ticket game between India and Pakistan will be played at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground. It will be the 7th encounter of these two Asian powerhouses facing each other.
India has won on five of the previous occasions. However, the Babar Azam-led Pakistani team defeated India in the last World Cup fixture between the teams.
Virat Kohli stepped down from captaincy in 2021. Rohit Sharma will lead India into the World Cup as the next full-time captain. After an embarrassingly early-stage exit in the last edition of the World Cup, India would try to turn the tables this time around. India has not been able to taste success in the ICC events since 2013. With a new captain leading the way, team India would be hoping for some changes of fortunes too.
