For the very first time, the traditional spectacle of Kambala, a buffalo race deeply rooted in the coastal regions of Karnataka, is set to unfold in the heart of the state capital, Bengaluru. The President of Bengaluru Kambala Samiti and Puttur MLA, Ashok Kumar Rai, made this historic announcement during a press conference on Wednesday.
Date and Venue
The extravaganza, scheduled for November 25 and 26, is not only breaking geographical boundaries but also promises to be a monumental event, attracting participants and spectators alike. In a departure from tradition, buffaloes for the mega race will be transported to the Palace Grounds venue on lorries, embarking on a journey from Uppinangadi in Dakshina Kannada district on November 23.
Unprecedented Expansion Beyond Coastal Karnataka:
The decision to host Kambala in Bengaluru marks a significant departure from its traditional stronghold in Coastal Karnataka. Ashok Kumar Rai, the driving force behind this expansion, shared the exciting news during a press conference. The move is expected to draw a massive crowd, especially from the coastal regions, with approximately eight lakh people among the 18 lakh strong Coastal Karnataka community in Bengaluru anticipated to attend the two-day event.
Logistics and Grand Procession:
Over 150 pairs of buffaloes will commence their journey from Uppinangadi, departing at 9 am on November 23. The animals will make a pit stop at Hassan, where MLA HD Revanna and others have pledged support by providing fodder and water for the buffaloes, as well as lunch for the 2,000 participants. Following this pause, the buffaloes will embark on a grand procession, traveling from Hassan to Nelamangala and ultimately reaching the Palace Grounds on Friday.
Veterinarian Team and Participant Support:
Ensuring the well-being of the participating buffaloes, a team of veterinarians will be on-site throughout the event. This move underlines the commitment to the ethical treatment of animals during the races, reinforcing the organizers’ dedication to hosting a responsible and enjoyable spectacle. Additionally, the organizers have garnered substantial support from the local community, with 65 organizations in Bengaluru rallying behind the event.
Anticipated Spectacle and Extravaganza:
With expectations running high, Bengaluru braces itself for a two-day extravaganza featuring not only the exhilarating buffalo races but also a vibrant marketplace. Over 150 stalls will showcase a diverse array of food, artifacts, and other items, adding a festive atmosphere to the event. Prakash Shetty, the honorary president of the committee, highlighted the extensive support from 65 organizations within Bengaluru, signifying the widespread enthusiasm for this unprecedented Kambala venture.
