To tackle the long-standing traffic problem of Bengaluru, Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar headed a prime meeting with BMRDA officials and committee members. The participants collectively decided to implement a solution that involves establishing underpasses across the city, connecting different areas of Bengaluru.
The meeting also discussed enhancing connectivity to the outskirts of the city by constructing tunnels. Media reports indicate that a substantial budget of ₹22,000 crore has been earmarked for the initial phase of the ambitious 50 km tunnel construction project.
Once the project is finalized, Bengaluru will witness seamless connectivity from one end to another, with a comprehensive network of metro lines, flyovers, and underpasses.
The officials also encouraged suggestions from citizens through the dedicated online platform called ‘Brand Bengaluru’. The report further revealed that the tunnel project, which has received approval from a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) joint partnership or Build Operate Transfer (BOT), will incorporate tolls to generate funds for the contractors.
Although the initial phase of the project encompasses a proposed 50 km of tunnel roads in Bengaluru, it is acknowledged that the city requires a total of 100 km of tunnel roads to effectively address the prevailing traffic issues.
