There is no surprise that the Indian National Congress has had a dynastical hold on politics for decades. Now in Karnataka, just days before the election, the same thing seems to be happening, on a smaller scale but still is to be impactful. The Congress Party is eager to win back control in the state, so it is petitioning actors to join its campaign, hoping that people will follow them and vote for the Hand.
Kannada actor Shiva Rajkumars wife, Geeta Rajkumar joined the Congress party on 28 April 2023, in the presence of the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee leader, DK Shivakumar who said, “She is a respectable person. She fought for the party during difficult times.”
Geeta Shivarajkumar is the daughter of former Chief Minister of Karnataka, S Bangarappa. She is campaigning for her brother, Madhu Bangarappa who is contesting a ticket from the Sorab constituency from Shivamogga district. Their brother, Kumar Bangarappa is contesting a seat from the same constituency but from the Bharatiya Janata Party. Geeta’s previous stint in politics was when she stood against former Chief Minister of Karnataka, BS Yediyurappa in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections on a JDS ticket, but lost by a huge margin.

The Rajkumar family has stayed away from politics, as Geeta stated that she would lend her support to the party as a daughter of a former Chief Minister and not as a daughter-in-law of Dr Rajkumar. Fans of legendary late actors, Dr Rajkumar and Puneeth Rajkumar, will lend their support to the Congress Party. Shiva Rajkumar’s late father and brother were much-loved actors in the state. The shock on Puneeth’s untimely death is still felt, with his photograph seen on public transportation and on walls of buildings in most streets of Bengaluru.
