Actor Rajesh Kumar, renowned for his role as Rosesh Sarabhai in the beloved television sitcom Sarabhai vs Sarabhai, has made a significant shift in his career, bidding farewell to the glitz of show business to immerse himself in the world of farming.
In a candid revelation, Rajesh shared that the exhaustion from the showbiz grind and dissatisfaction with the roles he was getting prompted this unconventional career change. However, this leap into a new profession came with its challenges, leading to the loss of his life savings and eventual bankruptcy. In a recent interview on the Rajshri Unplugged YouTube channel, Rajesh delved into the details of his journey, emphasizing the trials and tribulations he faced during his transition from actor to farmer.
Rajesh Kumar’s decision to step away from the limelight and delve into farming was not a spur-of-the-moment choice. In 2017, he declared a hiatus from acting and expressed his desire to work on his family’s ancestral land. Despite initial skepticism from his father, who considered it a passing phase, Rajesh remained resolute in his decision.
In his own words, expressed in Hindi, Rajesh articulated, “I felt I wasn’t growing as an actor, but in the world of farming, I was like a painter with a blank canvas. That’s how I started. I worked for five years relentlessly on farming.” However, his journey was far from smooth, as he encountered various setbacks. Nature, as he describes, played its own game. Planting 15,000 trees on 20 acres of land proved futile when a flood washed away his efforts. As four years passed, the pandemic added another layer of complexity to his situation. Financially strained, Rajesh found himself on a downward spiral, having depleted his savings by the time the lockdown arrived.
During this challenging period, Rajesh Kumar gained a profound insight into life. He shared a valuable lesson learned during his farming endeavor, stating, “The day you stop thinking about yourself is the day you start thinking about others, and that’s when others start thinking about you. It’s a circle.” This shift in perspective became a guiding principle for him, emphasizing the importance of looking beyond oneself for meaningful accomplishments. Proudly reflecting on his dual identity as an actor and farmer, Rajesh finds fulfillment in his children describing him with both titles.
Despite the hardships, Rajesh remains an iconic figure in the entertainment industry, having captured the hearts of audiences through his role in Sarabhai vs Sarabhai. The cult favorite, which originally aired from 2004 to 2006, witnessed a revival with a second season in 2017. Recently, Rajesh and his fellow cast members reunited for a delightful dinner in Mumbai, evoking joy among the show’s devoted fanbase. This reunion served as a testament to the enduring camaraderie shared by the Sarabhai vs Sarabhai cast, showcasing that while Rajesh Kumar has ventured into a different field, the bonds formed during the iconic show remain unbroken.
