The Hindi Film Industry has been in the news for promoting nepotism and promoting ‘undeserving talent’ on the silver screen, in the last few years. The public scrutiny has been a result of the lack of opportunities provided to the ‘outsiders’ in this rather cluttered space.
While it has been tough for most of the actors to deliver consistent hits in recent years, the ‘outsiders’ seem to have gained from the seeming democratization of the space, also with the advent of OTT platforms.
Radhika Madan has been one such outsider who has successfully carved an impressive little filmography for herself, in her initial years. The actress who had been featured in several stints with the television show made a formidable debut in 2018. The actress worked in Vishal Bharadwaj’s Pataakha and impressed everyone with her performance.
The 27-year-old actress graduated from Jesus and Mary College. Madan entered the limelight with her television stints. She made her debut with a soap opera called ‘Meri Aashiqui Tum Se Hi’. The series aired for not more than two years, but the actress was the highlight of the show.
The journey of television actors to the film world is not always an easy one. The transition was relatively easy for the actress as within four years of entering television, Radhika got her first Hindi Film stint with Bharadwaj.
While preparing for the role of a Rajasthani woman, Madan and her co-actor Sanya Malhotra stayed in the village and learned the lifestyle for portraying the truest self of the characters on screen. She was praised for the authenticity she brought to the character and that resulted in her getting further offers from the Hindi film industry.
Her second film was with Vasant Bala. ‘Mard Ko Dard Nahi Hota’ was appreciated for the technique of filmmaking and the nuances it touched upon. Vasant Bala, who recently made a stunning ‘Monica O My Darling’, was spot on with his direction and presented his actors very well.
Radhika had a very peculiar start to her career. Unlike several other newcomers, she did not choose the out-and-out commercial formula to succeed but was smart about her choices. With MKDNH, Madan proved her versatility as an actor. The actress, who learned a new accent for her first film, moulded into a much more athletic physique for her second venture. She also impressed the moviegoers with her stunts, which were performed all by herself.
The actress made her first commercial choice with Homi Adajania’s Angrezi Medium. The movie was Irrfan Khan’s last movie. Since then the actress has featured in a couple of web series, both of which have fared well on the respective OTT platforms.
Radhika’s latest movie ‘Kuttey’ will hit the theatres, following which she has got an impressive lineup. The actress will be paired against Akshay Kumar in the remake of the National Award Winning movie, Soorarai Pottru.
