While the world is all set to celebrate February 14 as Valentine’s day, cow lovers will be celebrating it as Cow Hug Day. This will be done to highlight the importance of the mother cow.

“All cow lovers may celebrate February 14 as Cow Hug Day keeping in mind the importance of mother cow and making life happy and full of positive energy,” read the notice issued by the board under the Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying.

The Animal Welfare Board issued an appeal for the unique celebration of valentine’s day. They stated that ‘cow hug day’ will bring emotional richness and “increase individual and collective happiness.”
“In view of the immense benefit of the cow, hugging a cow will bring emotional richness, hence will increase our individual and collective happiness. Therefore, all cow lovers may celebrate February 14 as Cow Hug Day keeping in mind the importance of mother cows and making life happy and full of positive energy,” said the notice.

The appeal also stressed the importance of Vedic traditions. It said that it is on a decline because of the rise in western culture. “…the dazzle of western civilisation has made our physical culture and heritage almost forgotten.”
Further, in their statement, the appeal highlighted the importance of cows in Indian culture. It talked about their contribution to India’s economy, sustainable life, and cattle wealth.

“It is known as Kamadhenu and Gaumata because of its nourishing nature like mother, the giver of all providing riches to humanity” it continued.
