Ever since the Laal Singh Chaddha movie got into controversy, lead actress Kareena Kapoor has been in the headlines. Recently, she commented that her character ‘Geet’ in the movie ‘Jab We Met’ led to an increase in the revenue of the Indian railways and the brand Harem Pants.
In the show, ‘Case Toh Banta Hai’, Kapoor said, “Mere Geet play karne ke baad harem pants ki sale aur Indian Railways ki revenue, dono badh gayi hai by the way (After I played Geet, the sale of harem pants and revenues of Indian Railways both have increased by the way).”
However, netizens strongly disagreed with her opinion and heavily trolled her! A Twitter user wrote, “Indian railways used to make lose of 43 pc of its revenue in passenger train till 10 years ago. So Kareena was responsible for higher loss.”
It is true that the Indian railways indeed face losses in the last ten years and the revenue actually declined from October 2007, when the film was released, until 2009. Hence, Kareena’s claim is unsubstantiated.
Coming to Harem Pants, some sources do claim that Kareena’s character of Geet promoted the pants. However, there is no evidence that her promotion of Harem Jeans led to an increase in revenue for the company. hence, this claim of Kareena is unfounded.
Meanwhile, another Twitterati said, “Kareena Kapoor says she increased Indian Railways’ revenue by playing Geet in Jab We Met. These Bollywood celebs are so out of touch with reality and then they wonder why people are not connecting with them.”
Yet another reacted humorously by saying, “Yes, it was the first movie ever shot in train, before that nobody knew that we have railway transportation too..”
Kareena Kapoor had recently played the lead character of ‘Rupa’ in the film Laal Singh Chaddha. The film, which is a remake of Thomas Hanks’ ‘Forrest Gump’ has been a big flop in theatres.
She will appear in the show ‘Case Toh Banta Hai’, featuring Riteish Deshmukh as a public lawyer, Kusha Kapila as a judge, and Varun Sharma as a defense lawyer. Apart from Kareena, Anil Kapoor, Varun Dhawan, and Karan Johar have appeared on the Amazon show to face ‘charges’ against them.
