The naked body of a woman was found stuffed inside a suitcase near Iffco Chowk in Gurugram on Monday. Prima facie, it appeared that the woman was murdered, following which her body was dumped in the bushes on the roadside near Iffco Chowk on NH 48.
Inspector Haresh Kumar, station house officer of Sector 18 police station, said, “There were injuries on her private parts too. Her body had a few burn marks probably caused by cigarette butts.”
The matter came to light when some passersby noticed a suitcase in an abandoned condition and informed police. Soon, Gurugram Police reached the spot only to find a woman’s naked body stuffed inside the suitcase.
It is being claimed that the woman was a victim of ‘love jihad’, a conspiracy theory according to which Muslim men trap Hindu women for conversion to Islam. A 53-second video clip of police officers investigating a suitcase stuffed with the dead body of a young woman dumped is going viral on social media.
A Twitter user shared the viral clip and wrote, “Are the souls of Hindu girls dead? Don’t they have any attachment to their religion and culture? If it is like this we will continue finding bodies in suitcases such as this. One more Hindu girl was found in a suitcase who had trusted her Abdul. Near Gurugram Iffco Chowk. Search is on .”
Another user wrote shared the clip and wrote, “yet another suitcase, yet another girl’s body same old case of love jihad. Gurugram.”
However, later it was revealed that The Haryana Police on Wednesday arrested the husband of the woman whose body was found. According to the police, the 22-year-old Rahul has confessed that he killed his wife over domestic strife. The deceased has been identified as 20-year-old, Priyanka, who lived with her husband and a one-year-old daughter at a rented accommodation in Sirhual village in Gurugram.
In his statement, the ACP Crime handling the case clearly identified the accused as Rahul. The police also mentioned that the victim had married Rahul in 2021. It was a love marriage. Immediately after that, they started fighting with each other. The police also added that they have recovered the knife with which the accused tried to remove the tattoo of the deceased.
To sum it up, the murder of a woman by her husband was given a communal spin on social media as a case of love jihad which can be misleading for the netizens.
