The Great Baghpat Chaat War, also referred to as the Great Battle of Papdi Chaat is celebrating its second anniversary this month. In 2021, a video of a brawl between two chaat sellers over attracting customers in Uttar Pradesh’s Baghpat went crazy viral.
Due to the conflict between two groups of chaat vendors over customers, a video of this street brawl quickly became popular on social media. The epic battle between two chaat sellers in Baghpat’s Baraut town market, during which one man with half-white, half-henna streaked hair drew a lot of attention and became a social media sensation.
Twelve people were injured and eight were arrested in the incident in 2021, though no serious injuries were reported. Harinder, the chaat seller became a social media sensation after he appeared to be winking in a photo clicked by the cops, post their detention. Some also called his hairstyle similar to that of the great physicist Albert Einstein and ‘Virus’ from 3 Idiots.
After the incident, he became extremely popular, with boys and girls wanting to take selfies with him when they visited his chaat shop in Baghpat. This was now causing issues with dealing with customers in the shop. This is why Harendra, alias Einstein Chacha, had to cut his hair.
In the viral video, two groups, armed with iron rods and sticks, were seen brutally beating each other up on the road. Both sides pounded on everyone involved in the fight mercilessly. As they beat one another, the fighters rolled on the road.
Twitteratis celebrated the Baghpat war in full swing. One user wrote, “Second anniversary of Battle of Baghpat where Einstein chacha came up as the last man standing.” Another user wrote, “It’s the 2nd Anniversary of the deadliest Battle of Papdi-Chaat fought at Baghpat that brought the world to its knees.” whereas another user added “Two years since the most iconic fight in history of independent India- Baghpat Chaat Yudh. Kids will be taught about this in their history textbooks and how these bravehearts went to jail.”
